In the heart of the Carneros appellation stands the majestic chateau which houses Domaine Carneros winery. Claude Taittinger, president of the famous Champagne Taittinger, traveled in the Carneros as a young man and recognized the potential of this beautiful area to produce world-class sparkling wines. With the completion of Domaine Carneros in 1989, his dream of a California prestigious winery became a reality.

The story of Artesa, set into the Carneros hills in the appellation of Carneros, actually begins in Spain some 450 years ago. Upon its opening in 1991, the architecturally-acclaimed facility, the wineries sole focus was méthode champenoise sparkling wine production. In 1997 the winery shifted focus dramatically. 'Artesa', meaning 'handcrafted' in Catalan was born with the inaugural release of ultra-premium still wines in September 1999. From the terrace you can enjoy a view of both Napa and Sonoma valleys while enjoying a glass of your favorite wine.

The sunny terrace at Gloria Ferrer Champagne Caves beckons guests to enjoy a glass of bubbly and soak up the splendor of the wine country. Their informative cave tour focuses on the history, production of sparkling wines and the exceptional qualities of the Carneros Appellation. Learn how the grapes of sparkling wine, chardonnay and pinot noir, are blended together in different proportions to create distinctive variations of the bubbly.
